2008: No puppies at Spicemill this year Bitches have the particularity
that they can reabsorb foetus and this is what has happened to our Scamp. We were
very sorry to disapoint the families who had expressed an interest in owning a
puppy from this planned litter. We hope we will have more luck next time. October
2008: Scamp is in whelp An ultrasound scan has today confirmed that our
Scamp is in whelp. It looks like it is going to be only a small litter. But it's
all right as we breed for quality, not quantity. And with such parents, how could
these puppies not be exceptional? They are due in November. September
2008: Scamp visits Trevor Our Scamp 'Oxane-Diable Animagus avec Spicemill'
came with us all the way to Cannes, in the South of France to meet the handsome
black Trevor des Trois Petits Diables. She liked him very much and they will hopefully
make us beautiful babies in the not too distant future. July
2008: Venka joins SARDA Meridian As they were no search & rescue group
in our area, we had had to join a group based in Lincolnshire to help us train
Venka and get her qualified. But with the amount of calls out that we get in our
area, it was time for a new group to be formed and this is finally going ahead
so watch this space for the creation and progress of SARDA
Meridian. July
2008: Hips A for Steamy The hips scoring system is different on the continent
and a letter is given, with A being the best score. And guess what, the first
dog born at Spicemill to have his hips scored gets an A. Steamy' hips are A and
is elbow are 0/0. You can't do better than that! June
2008: Litter planned from Scamp and Trevor We have now received the necessary
authorisation for our next litter. Our first choice is French Champion Trevor
des Trois Petits Diables and our reserve stud dog is French Champion Amylton du
Domaine Jarette. It was very difficult to decide in between these two as they
are both dogs of exceptional quality, who are not only successful in the show
ring, but who are both working dogs from very reputable lines. But we finally
decided to pick the black beauty. We cannot wait to see these puppies as we have
high expectations for this litter, which is also the start of a new line as Scamp
is an import. So we are eagerly waiting for Scamp's next seasons. May
2008: Steamy is Spicemill's first champion Great news from Poland where
Anna and Steamy keep making us oh so proud. Spicemill Steamy Wasabi is now Polish
Junior Champion. This happens in the same month when he passed his mentality test
with the maximum number of points. Not just a pretty face, hey! Mai
2008 : Gold for the girls Jo and Poppy got the "Kennel Club Good Citizen
Scheme" gold. Congratulations! March
2008: Venka is now a level-3 NSARDA dog James and Venka (Pines Piccolo
avec Spicemill) have done it again. They took their level 3-area assessment for
NSARDA (National Search & Rescue Dog Association) and passed. This qualification
is valid for 3 years and means that James and Venka are now operational to search
larger area, such as woodlands. We are very proud of Venka, who is still the only
hovawart and the only dog in Kent to hold a NSARDA qualification. She absolutely
loves it and is a pleasure to watch working. We hope her achievements will motivate
more people to join search & rescue teams with their hovawarts, or any other
dogs for that matters. We are very grateful to the local press who covered
the news of Venka's qualification, thus helping us promoting the work of all the
volunteers who participate in Search & Rescue operations. Venka was in the
Westerham Chronicle (20 March - p.3), the Saturday
Observer (22 March - p.5), on the front page of the Westerham & county
border news (27 March) and on ITV
Meridian (25 March - lunch and evening news). Well done Venka!
March
2008: Stig goes to his first Crufts Spicemill Saffron Stigma 'The Stig'
goes to his first Crufts, handled by our friend and Stig's co-owner Flora Brumby.
They did extremely well together, finishing 2nd in the junior dog class, which
means Stig is qualified for Crufts 2009! January
2008: Happy birthday Spices puppies! Venka's
9 puppies are now a year old and keep making us proud.
