hope you have all sent your entries to the National Working & Pastoral Open
Show in Coventry on Saturday 14 February and to Crufts in March of course! I don't
know who is coming from abroad this year, so it will be a nice surprise. 2009
puppies Not
heard from Berkenbos so I am not sure whether they have had any puppies. But the
great news is that Driftinsky is waiting for puppies as their bitch Tyehelva Super
Summer 'Drift' is due today! This is exciting news for the families who have been
waiting for a puppy for a while. We
let a few of them down as we had our Oxane-Diable Animagus avec Spicemill 'Scamp'
mated a few months ago. She was scanned positive so we were expecting to spend
Christmas with puppies but she reabsorbed the litter. That has not put us off
though and we're hoping to have our Pines Piccolo avec Spicemill 'Venka' mated
in Spring and then to attempt again to mate Scamp later in the year. In
the meantime, we are going to be busy with the lovely Ruby, a 2 year old black
and gold female hovawart from Venka's first litter. Due to unforeseen circumstances,
her current owner is no longer able to look after her so she is coming back at
Spicemill and we will be looking for a new loving home for her. Coming
back to puppies for 2009, I believe Pines are looking at getting Pines Penny Whistle
mated at her next season and Annvad also has plans for their black maiden bitch
Berkenbos Annvads Choice 'Beronika'. So 2009 should see a few more hovawarts on
our shores. Kennel
Club Since
the BBC documentary about the health of pedigree dogs, things have really been
moving at the Kennel Club. Several breeds from the working group just have their
standards reviewed. I think we can be proud of our breed which is still 'Fit for
function'. I do hope hovawart breeders will keep presenting our breed to prospective
owners as a rustic working breed and make every efforts to keep our hovies just
as they are. Remember
