Stop News - Puppies theft

We unfortunately start with some terrible news coming from France where our friends from the Trois Petits Diables kennel had a litter of puppies stolen from their home. They came back home from a show to find the doors open and mum and pups gone. Luckily, their bitch Berta came back home after a couple of days, but no news of the puppies. I don't know if these puppies would survive away from their mum as they were so young (about 10 days old) and if they do make it, I know it is unlikely that we will see them on our shores, but just in case, it is worth spreading the news. So if you see or hear of young black & gold male hovawarts for sale and you have any doubts whatsoever about the origin, please get in touch with us or with the breed club. Many thanks.

International Shows

A lot of catching up on show results… The International Hovawart Federation Show was taking place in France this year in June. The judges were Ms Ans SCHELLEKENS from the Netherlands who we know well as she judged our club show the year before, together with Ms Sigrid DARTING ENTENMANN (D) from Germany and Mr Pierre BOCHER, vice-president of the French club. Once again, a delegation of Pines Hovawarts was representing team GB. They have no reason to be envious of continental hovawarts thanks to their more than decent results:
Pines Penny Whistle, owned and bred by Elaine Betts and John Sharpe, got an excellent rating and finished third of the open bitch class. Her brother Pines Saxophone at Hightimbers, owned by Maggie Spencer, also got an excellent rating and finished second in the male open class. And the little one of the group, Pines Enigma Variation at Hightimbers also did well with a very good rating and a second place in the bitch junior class.
The winner of the day was 2 years old Sunia Las Ksiezniczek, winner of the bitch working class, who then confirmed her quality by going to win the working class at the World Dog Show in Stockholm the following month. Best male at the IHF show was Ulsan Gasco Prim, winner of the male working class.

For the rest of the result of the Worl Dog Show, you can visit the website of the Swedish kennel Bergenhovs which has included pictures of many of the hovawarts: http://www.hoffe.info/Engelska/engelsk.htm. Click on events and then World Dog Show 08.

British Shows

Coming back to the UK scene, we had classes at the National Working & Pastoral Championship Show in July.
Best of breed was winner of the open bitch class Ann Travis' Annvad Carefree Princess, under judge Mr A Wight. His best dog was White & Whitmore's Minches Jason Of Driftingsky. Reserve best bitch was Ann Stewart's Minches Jaunty and reserve best dog Inches' Tyehelva Neo Nexus.

Just after, Paignton Show was taking place and Minches Jason of Driftinsky this time got the BOB. BB was Gill Stockton's Annvad Celeste Lady, while RBB was White & Whitmore's Tyehelva Super Summer Of Driftingsky. RBD best dog was Valerie Shone's Minches Jet.

We had entered our dogs at Richmond in September but unfortunately did not make it as our Scamp came in season and we took her to France to be mated instead. It seems that we did not miss too much as Elaine Betts tells me that the weather was absolutely appalling and that they were stuck in the benching tent the whole time with thick mud running everywhere. Several first time showers were at this show and Elaine is not convinced we will see them at dog shows again! I was disappointed not to make it though as it was Valerie Shone's imported bitch first appearance on our shores. She has just been imported from the Netherlands. Valerie was very impatient to have her in the country and we were all dying to finally meet her. She did not do bad at all for her first show as she won the puppy bitch class. Maggie Spencer took the "bests" of the day, with BOB being best open male Pines Saxophone at Hightimbers 'DJ' under judge Mrs Lynne Salt, and BB being her young Pines Enigma Variations at Hightimbers 'Gracie'. The 2 Reserve also went to the same owner, this time Janet Pearce whose Pines Copper Beach was RBB and Pines Anubis was RBD. Elaine Betts and John Sharpe, breeder of the Pines hovawarts, can be rather proud of this line-up!

At the beginning of October was the club show, which again we miss as we preferred to stay at home looking after our bitch in whelp. It seems that we have chosen well when to stay at home this year as it was there again pouring down with rain. I heard it was a success anyway and that everybody had a great time. The winner of the day was Craig Hosie's Annvad Daimys Princess while BD was Pines Saxophone at Hightimbers. RBD dog was Tyehelva Neo Nexus and RBB Sharpe & Betts' Kynyaf Tiy of Pines. And let's not forget the little one, best puppy was Denby's Pines Aken.

Next was Darlington show where again, we had classes. BOB was BB Willerton's Annvad Dutch Dream. BD was Minches Jason of Driftinsky. RBB was Mark Tyerman's Hoffen Hills Hluma de Noir (Imp) and RBD was Fasskoleys Mathan who belong to the same owner. There was unfortunately absent dogs from nearly all the classes at that show. I know Elaine and John from Pines had entered and could not make it. It looks to me given the figures that they were not the only one. We will hopefully have more dogs coming next year.
