March 2008Dear
Mercedes What
a shock! As I am about to write these breed notes, I learn that Elaine and John
from Pines have lost their dear Mercedes. I was about to write about how she qualified
to become an IHF champion when winning the Hovawart Club of Great Britain show
in October last year, as it gave her the last IHF points she was missing. I must
say I am distraught. Mercedes is probably one of the hovawarts that has had the
most influence on me. I had not met a lot of hovawarts when I met her the first
time. After this meeting, I knew I would want a hovawart puppy and that it would
have to be one of her puppies. She was such a character. I am very grateful that
Elaine and John granted me that wish a few years later, when we welcomed a little
hovie girl from Mercedes' first litter. We had to wait a bit for our Venka, but
it was worth it. She remembers me so much of her mum, just as cheeky as her. Mercedes
was not my dog but hearing about her loss brings much sadness in my heart. Mercedes,
I will really miss you, you were not even 8, definitely gone too soon. Our thoughts
go with Elaine and John. Orchid's recently born 9 puppies might help them keep
their mind off this tragedy, but I know it is a hard time for them. John says
"It feels strange not to have Mercedes at home anymore. But we are very grateful
to have had her.". IHF
Champion Pines Mercedes
