March 2007Gone,
but never forgotten
It
is with great sadness that I have to report that Julie Condron, the Hovawart Club
of Great Britain secretary, has lost her blonde Sybil to bone cancer. Sybil
was diagnosed with this cancer last year but was lucky enough to live with Julie
who does not give up on her dogs easily. After treatment and amputation of her
back leg, Sybil was doing extremely well and there was hope that it would be the
end of this terrible disease. I think we will all remember Sybil bouncing merrily
on 3 legs at the club show in October, a lesson to all to see her looking so happy
without a worry in the world about her missing leg. Unfortunately,
due to a recurrence of the cancer, there was this time no more that could be done
for her and Julie had to make the ever difficult decision to let her valued friend
go. Julie
sends 2 pictures of the happy 3 legged Sybil so that we can all remember her: Julie
was very lucky to have shared a part of her life with such a smashing hovawart
and we think of her in this difficult time. Crufts
coming up The
statistics have now been published and tell us that it will be the second largest
entry ever, with 22,320 dogs, including nearly 1000 from overseas. We
should be expecting 39 hovawarts, totaling an entry of 45 in the different classes.
2007
hovawarts The
first 2007 hovawarts have arrived in Kent as our Pines Piccolo avec Spicemill
'Venka' gave birth to 9 healthy puppies on the night of the 29th to the 30th of
January. This is her first litter but she took it all in her stride and knew exactly
what to do. See
below a picture of 3 females of all 3 colours at about 11 days old, with the eyes
just opening.
More
puppies are on their way as her mum Pines Mercedes is in whelp. She was mated
with the French dog Ubaye des Leus Altiers and not with Bosse vom Hause Degro
as we stated in our previous breed notes. Sorry for the confusion! So a litter
of black and gold puppies should be expected very soon in Herefordshire if they
are not already born as you read this. Read
