About Dogs 2007: Volunteers needed! All
About Dogs is a now famous fun event for dogs and their owners and will take
place this year again at the Brentwood Center in May. Julia Christopherson
from the Hovawart Club of Great Britain is organising the breed representation
at this event and is looking for volunteers to join her on the Hovawart stand
on the 12th or 13th of May. Even if you help on the stand, there will be plenty
of time to enjoy a lot of the activities with your dog, so don't be shy and join
us with your hovie. Let's show the crowd hovies of all ages and in all 3 colours! You
can contact Julia on 01787 282727 for more information. Please note though that
she might go away for a few days so if you have trouble reaching her, please feel
free to email us instead. Coming
shows There
are a few shows coming up with hovawart classes in the coming months. It
will start with the National
Dog Show at Stafford where the hovawarts will be judged on Thursday 10th of
May by Miss Jean Lanning. Terry Thorn will be judging the working group. He had
unfortunately been poorly earlier this year, but unless I have missed recent news
in the dog press, I believe he is expected to make his come back at this show.
I think I can say that everybody will be delighted to see him in the ring again. Next
is the Newmarket Open Show where hovawarts will be judged on Saturday 16th of
June by Mrs M Wildman, who will also be judging the working group. Entries close
on 14th of May. We
also have hovawart classes at two championship shows in July, starting with Paington
on Wednesday 11th of July (hovawart judge: Mrs Marion Spavin - working group judge:
Mrs Liz Cartledge) and at the National Working & Pastoral Breed at Malvern
on Saturday 14th of July (hovawart judge: Mrs Zena Thorn Andrews - working group
judge: Mr A. Wight). There is still time to enter both these shows. If
you are interested in what is happening outside the UK, you may like to know that
the Belgium hovawart club will be holding its annual show on 28th of May in Brasschaat
with judge Sabine Kerschner. The French hovawart club show will take place shortly
after, on 10th of June at Cibeins, with judge Pascal Hinque and Raymond Soulat. Show
results The
Working & Pastoral Breeds Association of Wales championship show was taking
place last week-end at the Royal Welsh Showground. Mr T Johnston was judging
the hovawart. His best of breed went to Anderson's Pines Porche of Myrtillas Cdex
who had been awarded best bitch. Isn't it nice to see show results with dogs who
have working qualifications? (Cdex is a working trial qualification). Our breed
can really do it all! Best dog went to Shone's Minches Jet and best puppy went
to Stockton's Berkenbos Chinook. Talking
about working qualifications, we are still working on our article about hovawarts
doing "real life" work. So please keep sending your testimonials. Whether
you are or not in the UK, if you are training your hovie for Search work, if he
or she is a PAT dog, if you know a hovie that works as a guide dog or as an assistance
dog, please get in touch. We would like to
hear from you.
