June 2006 - Hovawart Club of Great Britain ShowThe
Hovawart Club of Great Britain Show was taking place on 1st October at Oswestry
showground. Although
the weather was rather wet, the day went very well with hovawarts competing in
the breed classes and in obedience. Our judge was breed specialist Jan de Gids
from the Netherlands. The
winner of the day was Pines Mercedes, a black and gold bitch winner of the open
class, owned by Elaine Betts and John Sharpe. She was handled in the open class
by Nikki Douglas. But Elaine had to show her when competing for best in show as
Nikki was busy with her own dog, the gorgeous Biko v d Bremmerstee, a black dog
from the Netherlands who had won the open dog class, best dog and was then awarded
Reseve Best of Breed. I think Nikki did not regret travelling to the UK for the
show. Jan
de Gids is consistent with his judging as he had judged Mercedes in the past at
the World Dog Show in Amsterdam in 2002 where she was awarded best hovawart bitch
with an excellent and a CACIB. Reserve
best dog went to Vindael Devlin, the winner of the veteran dog class, owned by
Mr & Mrs Crick. He may be getting older, having just celebrated its 10th birthday,
but he still shines in the show ring. Reserve best bitch was Kynyaf Tiy of
Pines, owned also by Elaine Betts and John Sharpe. Best puppy was Pines Marionberry
of Myrtillas owned by Eleanor Andersons. Pines did very well by also winning
the progeny and the breeder class. With their black and gold outfit, we though
the ring was turning into a cabaret, but despite encouragements from the crowd,
John did not sing. It was suggested that the defeated Scottish team should be
wearing kilts next year. I think the breeder class is becoming one of the highlight
of the Annual Hovawart Club Show. On
a more personal note, we had the pleasure of seeing our young import Oxane-Diable
Animagus avec Spicemill gaining a lot of confidence. She can be a bit ring shy
but showed beautifully on the day and won best junior and best yearling. At
the end of the day, each judge received a gift from the club to thank them for
their wonderful work and the show was ended with Pines Saxophone DJ,
owned by Mr & Mrs Spencer, awarded the Hovis trophy for his success in the
show ring this year. The
detailed results of the breed and obedience class will be made available shortly
from the Hovawart Club of Great Britain website. If
anybody has any nice pictures taken at the show, please send
them to us so we can include some with our next breed notes. |
