| The hovawart
is a fairly large general purpose working dog originating from Germany. They have
semi-long hair and come in 3 colours: black & gold, blonde and black. You
can find a little bit more about the breed, where it comes from, its temperament
and what it looks like on the following pages: General
Breed Information UK (Kennel
Club) Breed Standard You
can also find out more about the breed in the very good book "Hovawart"
written by Francis Dedier who has an extensive experience of this breed. This
book is available for purchase via the link on the right on Amazon. Have a look. |

Remember
that the hovawart is a working breed. If you are not interested in doing
some form of canine activities with your dog, then it is worth asking yourself
whether they really are the right dog for you. Will you be able to provide a stimulating
enough environment, will you have time to play with your dog in addition to his
daily walk/s, maybe introduce some scent games at home? If yes, then a hovawart
may be just the right pet for you. If not, it may be best to consider a more manageable
breed.
Because
the hovawart is a rare breed, you do not see them around very often. If you want
to meet one in the flesh, why don't you come and meet ours? Our Venka is a bit
of a show off and always enjoy visitors and Scamp is usually not far behind. They
won't let you stop fussing them!
